Areas for Health Gain
There are a number of health problems which have a significant prevention component or have the potential for better management outcomes. Both of these can lead to significant gains in overall population health and to the quality of life and functional ability of the individual. The Health Observatory adopts a multi-disciplinary approach to research and is currently working with a number of other disciplines that will further clarify the nature of and underlying reasons for health problems. These current partner disciplines include:
-
Geography (geographic mapping and the importance of place in health)
-
Economics (health costs, health incentives and disincentives)
-
Marketing (consumer behaviour)
-
Nutrition (decision making, food consumption patterns, dietary education)
-
Psychology (work and life balance, health literacy, health behaviour)
-
Management (health services, adverse events)
